إقليم كوردستان إقليم مستقل في الجمهورية العراقية الاتحادية



يحد اقليم كوردستان من الغرب سوريا, و من الشرق ايران, و تركيا من الشمال, حيث الملتقى لسلسلة جبال زاكروس بالاراضي المنبسطة والخصبة . كما يلتقي فيها نهر دجلة بالزاب الصغير و الزاب الكبير . ان مساحة اقليم كوردستان تساوي ٥٠.٠٠٠ ( كيلو متر مربع ).

اللغة الرئيسية في المنطقة هي الكردية ، إلى جانب اللغات التركمانية والعربية والآشورية والأرمنية. يُشار إلى أربيل (عاصمة الإقليم) باسم "هولير" في كوردستان. تقع أربيل على بعد 350 كم شمال بغداد (عاصمة العراق) وهي أكبر محافظة في إقليم كوردستان.

و الازدهار الحاصل و الوضع الامني المستدب في الاقليم, في ظل حكومة اقليم كوردستان , جعل منها مصدرا للالهام و نموذجا للعراق الجديد .
